Prohibition
When the 18th amendment was ratified in January 16th 1919, it prohibited the making, transporting, and selling of alcoholic beverages. Many believed that the use of alcohol was reckless and destructive and the prohibition would reduce crime and corruption, fix social problems, and decrease the crime rate and also improve people's health. This group included the women from the temperance movement. They were concerned about the evils that the saloons were bringing to their household so they began to “crusade” anywhere that alcohol was being sold. The other side of the group just were doing this in order to make money. Billions of dollars will be lost due to prohibition and many black markets would form because people just wanted a drink or two.
